Christian Tabernacle Church of God, Inc.The Christian Tabernacle Church has its humble beginnings 33 years when 8 interested Christians banded together, under the leadership of Bishop William F. Hart, Jr., Mother Flossie Higgs, the Founder, had the vision of starting a church in the 3700 block of Georgia Avenue, Northwest, Washington, DC. God richly blessed Christian Tabernacle with an anointed and talented man of God.
Inspired by God and controlled by the Holy Spirit Bishop Hart yielded himself to God as a Pastor and opened the doors of the TAB on June 6, 1974. Being a dynamic preacher and singer, the word spread throughout the metropolitan area of Washington, D.C. that "Junior Hart" had organized a church and the membership grew as many came to hear their friend and pastor.
The Deacon Board was organized under the direction of the late Deacon Wayne Douglas. The church prospered spiritually and financially. We were blessed to have a strong Trustee Board with the late Trustee Jim Hawk as Chairman. The Trustee Board worked hard to keep the expenses of the church in line with the income.
The Sunday School was the beginning educational and teaching ministry of the church. The dedicated services of Superintendent Mother Pearl Hart, mounted up scholars of different ages. Cognizant of the need for a choir, Bishop Hart organized the first choir under the outstanding leadership of Sister Juanita Byrd.
Sister Dorothy Hart, wife of our Bishop was always unselfishly working as a helpmate for her husband and pastor, as she encouraged him in his service for the Lord. As a responsible and very business manner Christian Sister Hart served as the first usher of the church and organized the first Usher Board. A few months later, the Usher Board under the leadership of Sister Anita Wilson became a unit of ushers working hard and proudly. Sadly our beloved First Lady Dorothy Hart went home to be with the Lord on July 9, 1997.

Christian Tabernacle has a long and rich history. Some members have united with the fold and remained throughout their lifetime, while others have departed leaving their positive footprints on the sand of time. Many have worked and fulfilled their purpose and have gone on to be with the Lord. Nevertheless, the Christian Tabernacle Church is still holding on to God's unchanging hand as He gives us strength to maintain a steadfast position in Him. We are committed and dedicated to Christ and to His Word as we uphold the blood-stained banner that others may know that Christ died that we have life and have it more abundantly.
We have a proud history, but the best years are yet to come as we continue to grow in His love and reach out and touch somebody's hand.
